In this portion of www.oldquimper.com, we give the floor to Jean-Pierre, the recently-appointed Chief Financial Officer of The Meadows Collection, pictured to the right.

Now a mature six-and-a-half months of age, he is still young-at-heart and so full of enthusiasm that he has bravely stepped up to the plate...agreeing to fill the daunting task of taking over the position previously held by the late, but ever-present-in-our-hearts, Porquier-Beau whose image will continue to grace the upper left corner of this link.

It is with great pleasure we pass along the latest Memo from J-P.

"Greetings to all.

First a little bit about my background.

We eventually answer all
correspondence...please
be patient.

My name is Châtelain Jean-Pierre. Châtelain because being born in 2007... December 21, 2007 to be precise...means that in accordance with French regulations, my name must begin with the letter "c".  Those born in 2006 have names that begin with a "b" and those born in 2008 will have names beginning with the letter "d", and so on.

Châtelain is a French term from the Middle Ages used to distinguish the seigneur or lord of the manor. Jean is in reference to Jean-Baptiste Bousquet who settled in Quimper in 1699 and Pierre is in honor of his son, Pierre Bousquet, who in 1708 founded Quimper's first modern-day pottery factory.

Le Châtelain is also the name of a Breton firm that specialises in cheese...in this case, a camembert made in neighboring Normandy.

Like that other famous JP, I have a keen acumen for business and take my job very seriously.  I have studied hard so that I could fully understand the task at hand. It is my goal to scour the countryside in search of an object that is worthy of your attention.

For this issue's Memo from J-P, my selection is a knock-your-socks-off jardinière from the Henriot factory.

I suppose the conventional use for this sort of piece would be as a container for items such as flowers, plants, fruit, etc. But being a wee bit avant-garde and a whole lot curious, I see it as a rare opportunity to get-up-close-and-personal with a mythical creature...

...and then, being a growing kitten in need of lots of sleep, I decided it would make a marvelous spot for a cat-nap...

Whatever your preference...use it as you will...it is sure to be the  centerpiece of your collection!"

We'd like to add that, while little J-P is very clever at coming up with great stuff, he remains incorrigible where respecting boundaries and apartment rules are concerned.  We'll keep trying...in the meantime, complete details on this absolutely magnificent example of Quimper art pottery can be found in this issue's Shop in Your Slippers pages.
