Saint Hubert is the patron to all things canine, so this Quimper grès figure of a dog with an empty petit-breton embellished écuelle is a fitting illustration. It is the work of René Quillivic (1879-1969), who  first collaborated with the potteries of Quimper as early as 1909. By the 1920s, Quillivic had a separate, private studio on the premises of the HB factory.

This vintage photo-postcard shows the sculptor at work in his studio in Quimper.

Another vintage photo-postcard...these were sometimes used to act as copyright protection for the various designs produced by each pottery. On the left in the postcard is other HB Quimper canine...

...a grès figure by Jacques Lehman, called Jacques Nam (1881-1974).

To continue with our comparison of the animals at one of Brittany's zoos with the animals created by the potters of Quimper, let's look at these zebras on the grounds of the Château de la Bourbansais...

...and this stylized zebra from a plate designed for the HB factory by Marguerite Soudanne (1894-1976).
